1. Stopping Rain in Xian city, Magic in Louguan Taoist Temple: Making the moon appear on a cloudy
day, an
appearance of Taoist Ancestor Lu .
Qigong fever was raging in
China and the ancient city of
Xian was the most popular place in whole
country. Master Yan was in Xian and was giving a lecture to a huge audience.
The event organizers were very anxious because the weather forecast predicted heavy rain, and they were expecting ten thousand people to converge on the ancient
city. One of them had heard of a person who was known to control wind and rain and
one of his disciples, Mr Zheng
happened to live in
Xi'an.
The leaders aranged with him
to fly to
Shenyang
city to meet this master, Wang Liping....
Several year later I happened to meet Mr. Zheng who had become a national recycling expert. Our
conversation turned to Master Wang and I asked him if Wang Liping
was the real thing and if the rain was really
stopped? He stared at me a moment and said, "
Xi'an city. The famous stopping of the
rain...the provincial leaders personally invited me to bring Master Wang
there". I also had the opportunity of meeting master Wang when I was staying at hotel at Xian. That night when I was
going to my room I looked through the crack in a
door and saw Master Wang Liping sitting on the ground in meditation. Then the
door closed all by by itself. I tried to get up and
pushed it open again just a crack but I couldn't
move and I felt like I was in a trance. Soon I fell
fast asleep.
...As the crowd gathered the next day, the ancient city was enveloped in
dark gray light. Master Wang Liping said, "I can
only guarantee clear skies within the inner city walls for three hours, after
that everyone must quickly leave". So the general assembly was ordered to
start. At that moment a walkie-talkie message reported that outside of the city
walls there was heavy rain.
As Master Yan's lecture ended,
the thick clouds over the city began to release drops of water. The teams
finished the evacuation as the cloud burst and the rain began pouring down.
Long after I was fortunate enough to meet Master Wang Liping
in the Northeast, and I had heard first hand about
this amazing story Master Wang Liping eplained, “After I went to
Xi'an, I got out a meteorlogical
map and looked at the cloud formations. I realized that
I could keep away the rain for three hours.
Master Yan was very thankful for Master Wang's amazing feat. Master Wang
said, "You are the one who was really speaking to many thousands of
people, I had to assist you by stopping the rain."
This incident, of course, was very conspicuous and afterward the provincial
party secretary and the governor personally accompanied Master Wang to visit
the Bu Xian of
Eight
Immortal
Temple.
Suddenly out of nowhere, an elderly Taoist
ran straight up to Master Wang and asked,
"boy, you
stop the rain"? Master Wang just smiled, daring not to say anything.
Then the old Taoist was gone, disappearing as
fast as he had come. The Provincial leaders asked
Temple
Affairs to find out who this person was.
Inquiries were made to everyone, but no one had seen him nor knew anything
about the old man.
Master Wang was a life long student of the
Quanzhen
School of the Dragon Gate sect, but the
Taoists who recruited a head of various generations wanted to question Master
Wang's lineage. At this point Master Wang's Master suddenly appeared from the Zhongnan mountain and said,
"Wang Liping is my true disciple. I am your
predecessor, and when I became the
Huangpu
Military
Academy
instructor, I discussed the Dragon Gate
tradition of virtue; you can ask a certain Lieutenant-General who now
lives in
Xi'an".
This was a lucky date because there were 50 high level Dragon gate sect Taoists at
Louguatai
Temple in Xian city, many more than 80
years old. After hearing this confirmation they all gathered round to give
worship to Master Wang, and after the ceremony they had Master Wang sign his
name on the official documents.Of course, they
wouldn't let immortal Master Wang off that easily so they sent him to Louguantai Temple where Laozi
lectured about the Dao Dei Jing 2000 years ago. Night was falling on a cloudy
day and the Taoists made a public request, asking him to please perform a
little feat of Taoist magic. They asked him to make the moon appear, and to
summon the spirit of ancestor grand Master Lu Tongbing.
Master Wang refused at first, but the Louguantai
leader bowed his head, begging him and said: please teacher, show us your great
achievements. As the temple bells sounded all of the Taoist in full vestments
gathered. The bright moon slowly broke through the clouds and strange light
shown down as a ghostly image of Master Lu appeared at the ancient
Louguantai
Temple.
2. Taoist Peng in Huamountain.
The first time I met Taoist Peng, it was October 1995 at the
Beijing athletic university. Taoist Peng was
tall and skinny with a long nose and small eyes. He wore a blue and white robe, and
in his arms he carried a huge old brown coconut fiber mat. He was not a person that loved
to strike up conversations with others and when asked any questions, he
silently shook his head in reply. But all of the
students living in the city had a lot of interest in him,
and wanted to ask him questions, because he had been on a TV show.
The Second time I met Peng Taoist priest was at Jinhua mountain in 1996. He had
the same bright red face and was wearing a brown
coconut fiber raincoat. It was difficult to find him because he was always
going up and down he mountain to find locations for
meditation. This time I saw a person that I recognized, and he had a better
understanding of Peng than any of the other Taoists
that were familiar with him. He told me that Peng was on television because unlike most people who need to use
hands and feet to climb Hua mountain,
he could speed up the mountain on just his two feet. It didn't seem like that
big of a deal me at the time and I just thought that he was used to climbing
there. At that time I never been to
Hua
Mountain...
Two years ago, I went to the
Hua
Mountain myself and got a
taste of how tall and steep the cliffs there actually were. Visiting there made
me remember the Taoist priest Peng. "My
God", I thought, "this guy actually is at
the most dangerous precipice on the mountain assisting the tourists by retrieving their valuable things that fall off the cliff, and he even sleeps above in a pine tree right on the cliffside!"
Because of this he was famous on the news networks, and a number of
reporters had visited him from all over the country.
This
year I saw the Master Wang and asked him about the Taoist Peng. Master Wang laughed
and said, "There are more stories! There was a person
who had climbed up tens of meters on the cliff of
Hua
Mountain
where there was a cave. He was stuck there and couldn't go up or down. Finally his friends hung a rope
from the top of the cliff and pulled him up. This matter has
caused a big stir amongst the Hua Mountain Taoist priests because it was a priest who was known by his
colleagues to be in quite excellent shape. He said he suddenly
felt like he was in a trance and did not know how to climb up out of the cave. Many
people thought this was a miracle but the head Hua Mountain Taoist nun Cao (who is a graduate of Qinghua
University Beijing and is nearly 70 years old) told everyone to keep quiet
about it.
Later, Taoist Peng had come to worship Master Wang and brought out something from
that cave( this was not recent). A year ago,
I went to a temple in
Shaanxi, re-visiting with Peng. He had gained a lot of weight and
I almost couldn't recognize him. I went to listen to him talk about himself and his
experiences. He told me how he had been studying with Master Wang and was practicing Master Wang’s Taoist meditation techiques at the
south heaven gate in
Hua
Mountain. Since there are almost no people he can basically
use all the time every day to practice; the key is the air quality...he
can work on refining the Qi without any obstructions.
He said the people who live down from the mountain just are not used to the air and have shortness of
breath. It is is
also too chaotic for them where they live and they cannot easily silent their
minds. It had been quite good in the mountains, he said, but he was a
well-known and a lot of people were always looking for him.
There is a shooting coach looking for him who told him that due to
his being able to sleep in a pine tree, he will be able to excel in shooting.
He went with the coach, but for a while, but was not interested and left
Later,
someone invited him down from
Hua
Mountainto do
business. He was young and always wanted to drive, so he followed this person down to the city and only afterwards
found out the people were using him to make money. He
said, "people like myself are simple and only
suitable for living in the mountains". I
asked him about more about
Hua
Mountain and he said,
"
Hua
Mountain
is in excellent shape and when no one else is there, I
often experience things I don't quite understand". It is a
Spirit
Mountain, he has often seen a white light and big robe
like in a Kung Fu drama drift passed in the pine
forest. The elder Taoist told him, it was only a sword immortal practicing.)
"To go down
and leave the mountains is easy, to enter the mountains
is difficult" Taoist Peng said at the time.
The high level Taoists tell him he cannot leave the Mountain...he heard, but
did not listen. Such is life...
4. Dreaming
came to true: celestial being talking immortal Tao
Thirteen
years ago in the summertime, I had just graduated from university to working as
an intern. The work during the internship was very easy,
I made lot of new friends and was very relaxed and happy. Life went along like
that until October first, Chinese Independence day. That night I had a very
strange dream. It was very long, but somehow I woke up able to remember
everything about it. In the dream people were saying that there was
an immortal giving a sermon in the mountains. A few people including myself went over the mountain to go listen. I remember
how tall the mountains were, and how hard it was to climb them. Finally we
arrived at a plateau covered with grass, swaying in a gentle breeze. The
plateau was filled with about 100 people. One of the people there was dressed
in Taoist robes lecturing the rest of the crowd and was obviously the immortal.
I rarely have had dreams about anything beyond very basic ideas, so this one
was very puzzling... and the dream was very clear.
Three days
later after the dream, a college classmate phoned me at noon. He told
me that there was a teacher who he wanted to see that was giving seminars
in
Beijing,
and that I should really go as well. So I called and tried to register for the
class but unfortunately it was full. I went to the registrar’s office to
check and met one of the staff who asked me a few questions. He told me to just
mention his name to get a good seat. I was kind of skeptical about
going since it was so far away from where I lived. When I got there
it was 3 o’ clock in the afternoon. I went up to registration
counter and mentioned the registrant’s name who I met earlier. The
woman working the counter pulled out a ticket and gave it to
me...it was number 81. So then I made my way towards my seat, ticket in
hand. I was having a hard times finding seat number 81 and was preparing
to ask the someone when saw a man coming towards
me. He was wearing a red shirt, black jeans and white tennis shoes, and
was jogging towards me from the East. His fair skinned face had a red
glow and somehow looked more than mortal. As I snapped out of a trance I
suddenly noticed a whole group of people
flowing him and calling him teacher. I
followed them to a venue that red shirt who is my teacher in my
dream. Venue Nearly 300 people, after going to find my seat. I
finally found that the so called seat number 81,
and it really was a great seat. It was directly in front of
the teacher and was the first one behind the stage intercom seat
(much later I learned that this was one the seats for his own
staff, but then he was too prominent, feeling wrong
and catch up with him, then he gave me
this original seat is the best, I did
not understand at that time. I sat for a moment, but ended up giving my seat to a
elderly person and stood in the back corner during
the lecture.
After the
lecture, I was in a five-member group for a discussion. the group consisted of a university teacher, an
academician, a large manager of a company, a university student,
plus me. The academician was part of
a special five-member group of Chinese biology
experts. We had a good time and
an interesting conversation. During the conversation their was no labels professor, expert,
manager or student; we were all equals. So drowsily
over-nearly 10 days, that is, the 10 days I laid
a preliminary understanding of Taoism. In retrospect, it was really incredible.
5. Master
Wang's good friend --- 10th Panchen Lama
The tenthPanchen Lama during his lifetime was magical
wand of enlightenment to many beings throughout their lives. Master Wang
was a good friend of the Panchen Lama
and he often listened to him preaching his very
compassionate words. One day, Master Wang had a strange urge to
go visit his good friend. The Panchen Lama
was in a hall of white sandalwood Buddha statues. The Panchen Lama was showing how to give an
offering to the Buddha. There was a white-silk Hada (traditional ceremonial scarf used in
Tibet)
that was to be layed more than ten meters high
in the hands of the giant Buddha statue. The Panchen
Lama used his two fingers to stir up the white silk Hada while quietly chanting some sutras. Gently the
white silk Hada
floated up and landed in the hands of the Buddha.
